In another sign that Dr. Rand Paul is pulling away from the field in the Kentucky Republican primary, the Gun Owners of America was not fooled by former Democrat Trey Grayson and endorsed Dr. Paul for the U.S. Senate. The AP reports:

A pro-gun rights organization has endorsed Rand Paul in Kentucky's U.S. Senate race.

Gun Owners of America announced the endorsement on Wednesday.

Vice Chairman Tim Macy said Paul's "commitment to the right to keep and bear arms is unwavering."

Rand Paul officially filed to run for the U.S. Senate as he has stormed to a huge fundraising and polling lead. The AP reported on the filing:

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul's son has officially entered the GOP Senate primary in Kentucky.

Rand Paul's campaign manager turned in the candidacy papers and a $500 check to the secretary of state's office on Wednesday afternoon.

Rand Paul, a Kentucky eye surgeon, has raised more than $1.7 million for his campaign largely by reaching out to people who had supported his father's unsuccessful presidential bid.

But the real story is the groundswell of grassroots Conservative activists who are flocking the campaign. WHAS reports that former Democrat Trey Grayson is too scared to even take questions about the race:

U.S. Senate candidate Trey Grayson said he's not worried about the race or fundraising between he and Rand Paul.

To date, Paul has raised $1.7 million.

Grayson, the current Secretary of State for Kentucky, said he won't release fundraising numbers until the end of January, adding that his campaign has the funding to win the race.

A poll from Public Policy shows Paul with a 19-point lead in the primary race. However, Grayson disputes those numbers, claiming that most polls show the race as a dead heat.

The new WHAS Survey USA poll is out and shows that Rand Paul has taken a 35-32 percent lead over Trey "Slick Willie" Grayson. Political observers are already taking note the the days of the liberal Grayson's political career may be numbered. The Northern Kentucky Enquirer writes:

Secretary of State Trey Grayson of Boone County and Rand Paul, a Bowling Green eye surgeon, are now running neck-and-neck.

Grayson has lost 9 percentage points and Paul has gained five since the most recent poll in early August.

It's still early: The primary isn't for six months, and 18 percent of primary voters say they're undecided. Still, political observers say the results are a bad sign for Grayson.

"I think Grayson is definitely in trouble. A few months ago, I thought he'd breeze to the nomination. But now, it's clear that he's got a fight on his hands," said Northern Kentucky University political science professor Dr. Michael Baranowski.

We finally got rid of John Edwards and now another multi-millionaire trial-lawyer is trying to get to the United States Senate. Rich trial lawyers like Jack Conway are the real reason our health care costs are rising. Check out this clip from a WAVE 3 story:

A major award in a wrongful death case came Tuesday afternoon. A Louisville jury ordered University Hospital to pay more than $9 million to a Meade County family. It has been a three-year battle for the family who lost a wife and mother to what the jury decided was the hospital's negligence. WAVE 3 Investigator Connie Leonard has reaction to the verdict from family members and hospital officials. (...)

The hope for change is coming to the tune of $9,000,047. During a four-week court battle, Beglin's attorney, Jack Conway, told the jury about the 40-year-old mom of two, a systems analyst at Louisville's YUM brands, who was scheduled for a routine rectal surgery on July 14th 2003.

Court documents showed Jennifer Beglin had a history of bleeding problems. But, Conway told jurors there was no documentation of what blood would be needed or when for Beglin, and evidence proved numerous calls were made for blood work and doctors were heard screaming "Get me the blood!" while Beglin laid dying on the operating table, one floor above the blood bank.

Jennifer Beglin came out of surgery in a coma and three months later with severe brain damage. Her family had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go.

In the end, Conway says finger pointing let the jury decide who the victim was.

Louisville's pretty boy Jack Conway is now wasting tax-payer dollars of citizens across the Commonwealth. Remember this story from the Elizabethtown News Enterprise:

ELIZABETHTOWN – The re-trial of Michael St. Clair for the 1991 kidnapping of Frank Brady is set to begin today with jury selection, but some close to the case feel there’s little to be gained, even in conviction.

St. Clair already is on Kentucky’s death row for Brady’s shooting death and is serving multiple life sentences without parole for murder convictions in Oklahoma. (...)

In an e-mail response to Yustas’ letter, which also was filed Friday as part of the St. Clair case, Conway maintained that prosecution of St. Clair is imperative.

Conway explained in an e-mail to Yustas his understanding of the case status, its history and the money shortage prosecutors face statewide, something Yustas pointed to as added reasons not to re-try St. Clair.

“... Doing justice in this case cannot and should not depend on the state economy,” Conway’s e-mail states. “... The people of the Commonwealth deserve to have St. Clair held accountable for this murder.”

Attempts by The News-Enterprise to interview Conway on the St. Clair case have been unsuccessful. An e-mail response from Attorney General spokeswoman Allison Martin-Gardner maintains that the trial is important and necessary. (...)

Brady family members have opted not to speak about the case since a 2008 story about the cost of re-trying St. Clair.

Noting the costs of continued prosecution, St. Clair describes himself as “the $4 million man.”

An actual cost for the numerous prosecutions of St. Clair is difficult to pinpoint.

Yustas said what once was public criticism of 17 years’ worth of trial proceedings will now shift to a storm of negative publicity for Conway’s office and the justice system as a whole.

The Courier Journal has an article out today that raises many ethical concerns about out Lt. Governor. These appointments sound eerily similar to the merit scandals under Governor Fletcher. Could this be what Daniel Mongiardo was referring to when he said the "only difference between Fletcher and Beshear was that Beshear hadn't had his blowup yet"?

An e-mail sent Monday by Richard Starnes, chief technology officer for the Mongiardo campaign, lists openings on nine state boards and asks that names of potential appointees be sent to Dick Prelopski, the campaign's director of field operations.

“If you know of someone that would be suitable for any of the positions, please e-mail Dick their name along with a resume,” Starnes said in the e-mail. “The window of opportunity is relatively short, so please submit the names and resumes as soon as possible.” (...)

Prelopski said that he did not know how many of his friends received the e-mail, and that he has not yet forwarded to the governor's office any names sent to him in response. He said he was not trying to earn favors, contributions or support for the Mongiardo campaign.

Rand Paul Gains Steam In Senate Race Polling

The latest Rasmussen poll is out and Dr. Rand Paul is surging! Dr. Paul now leads the disloyal Lt. Governor 43-38 percent. He has also closed the gap on the other liberal establishment candidate Jack Conway and only trails him by 4 percent.

In the Republican primary, Rand Paul now has a greater favorable rating than former Democrat and establishment candidate Trey Grayson. 16 percent view Paul very favorably, while only 13 percent of voters view Grayson very favorable. Looks like the Washington D.C. fundraiser with his pro-bailout Senators didn't do Grayson too much good.

Rand Paul's campaign manager David Adams said:

“Support for big government bailouts, takeovers, and debt is falling like a rock,” said David Adams, campaign manager for Rand Paul for U.S. Senate. “In just two months as a candidate, Rand is polling as well as or better than the professional politicians who have been at this for years.”

The Courier-Journal is reporting that Rand Paul has raised over $1 million in the latest fundraising quarter:

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul raised more than $1million in the year's third quarter, becoming the second candidate in the race to break the million-dollar mark during a three-month fundraising period.

David Adams, Paul's campaign manager, said Paul's campaign topped the $1million mark by the end of Wednesday, the final day of the third quarter. When he files his report, Adams said, Paul will show that he has raised about $1.1million since he began raising money in June.

"The state's top election official was found to have violated the state's election finance law Friday.
Republican Secretary of State Trey Grayson's 2007 campaign illegally accepted a couple of small contributions from a corporation, failed to get all the required identifying information from a handful of donors and accepted a couple of contributions slightly more than the $1,000 allowable under Kentucky law."
